Microsoft's Bill Gates dropped in on a press reception at Comdex, about a half hour after his Keynote speech at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino.  I spotted him talking to a few people, so I walked over to say hi and see if I could ask him a question.

I stood next to him for a few seconds, with a few people waiting behind me, while he indulged a request for a photo with another attendee.  Less than 20 seconds later it was a mob scene (right).

There was press everywhere - pushing, shoving and jabbing.  I guess they didn't care if some of us had formed a line to wait our turn to speak to Gates.  An aide pulled him out of the mosh pit shortly thereafter, with reporters chasing him out of the reception room and down the hall.

Nope, I never got to ask that question.  Better luck next time.  Sometimes the press sucks.
