"Sulu"

George totally cracks me up.  He was the last one to leave Quark's Bar.  We nicknamed him the 'Energizer Bunny' because he just kept going and going.  Everyone got a picture or autograph from George - in some cases two or three!  He even helped load film into cameras and assembled the little paper frames for polaroid snapshots provided by the event sponsor Conversa.  What a hoot!  You gotta love this guy.

Majel Roddenberry

Wow.  Majel Barret Roddenberry is like the Holy Grail of Star Trek.  I was a little chicken to go introduce myself at first, and it seemed as though quite a few other folks were a little intimidated by the prospect of approaching her too.  Ivan finally went to say hello and ask a few questions.  She was soon surrounded by a whole crowd of other well wishers.  She has a great sense of humor and is very engaging.  I won't repeat here what she said, but she made me laugh really hard!

Mrs. Roddenberry walked by my table as she was leaving and was stopped by a woman who asked "Who are you?"  Before I realized what was coming out of my mouth I spoke up and said, "Lady, are you nuts?  Majel turned to me, smiled, and replied, "That's okay" and in the most down-to-earth fashion proceeded to recite her entire resume to the woman starting with her role as Nurse Chapell on Star Trek, the fact that she is Gene Roddenberry's widow and finally ending with a description of the two network television series she is currently producing that will appear on TV this fall.  What a great lady.

"Data"

Doh!  Brent stopped to say hello to us when he first arrived at the party.  Ivan told him that I had named our SQL server after his Star Trek character.  Then I spent several minutes trying to explain what a SQL server is and totally confused him. :) He was so charismatic and charming that I totally forgot about taking pictures.
